Peace of Mind
If you are a leader and have an overall feeling of being unsettled, it is not necessarily a sign of weak leadership. It is a normal and rational response to the unpredictable and fast-changing world we are in. Stay focused on what matters and what you can control and let go of everything else. You will stand a greater chance of being at peace. BONUS - Remember this song anyone?
The Best Laid Plans
You can plan and plan all you want, but in life and business there will always be unexpected events. Control your reaction, regroup, be flexible, but do not give up. Find a new approach, change the timeline, rethink the goal in general. How we respond to these unexpected events can define us.
Grit is Not Enough
Angela Duckworth, the author of Grit, recently wrote an article in which she explained that over the years her philosophy has evolved and she now believes grit alone is not enough. Successful people also need support. Grinding it out for years on end is a recipe for burnout and failure. The people and places around us matter just as much as the qualities of perseverance we carry inside.
Kindness is Free
Being kind, understanding, and supportive is free. It is not weakness. It is not a lack of standards. It pays immediate dividends in employee retention, trust, and productivity. Maintaining accountability while being kind to your people is real leadership.
Reality Check
If someone followed you for a week, would they believe you were serious about your goals?
Are you challenging yourself mentally and physically or existing in a state of comfort?
How would your boss describe you? Are you truly bringing value to your organization?
Quote of the Week
"The world is not designed to give you a good life. It's designed to distract you from building one.”
— Matty Fusaro
Book of the Week
This book is more personal than professional development, but my philosophy is that they go hand in hand. The Untethered Soul is a book for those seeking a deeper life and one with more joy and happiness regardless of external conditions.
That’s it for this week! Enjoy your Labor Day Weekend.
